OR... Do Service from HOME.
There's lots you can do to serve your community without leaving your home!
If baking holiday cookies, cakes or pies at home...
* Bake a second batch and deliver it to a nearby shelter or a service agency in your neighborhood.

Got a new coat, gloves, or scar for Christmas...
* Collect extra warm stuff in your family and in your neighborhood to donate to shelters or service providers. Everyone needs warm clothes this time of year.
* Organize a mitten tree or other warm clothing drive in your neighborhood or at your place of worship.

Make holiday cards for senior citizens in your neighborhood or at a nearby senior center.
* Just knowing that someone cares about them this holiday season can make the season bright.
* Make similar cards for shelters or homes near your home and ask your parents to help you deliver them to those in need of encouragement.

TIME: 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM
PLACE: Cecil B. Moore Recreation Center
2551 N. 22nd Street (just below Lehigh Ave)
Philadelphia, PA 19123

WHAT: Join Building with Books and City Year in our efforts to revitalize Cecil B. Moore Recreation Center! Help this center become a hub for safe, educational, and fun activities for local children.

HISTORY: Cecil B. Moore Rec Center was built in 1923 and is located in a neighborhood with a rich cultural history. The playground and activities offered at Cecil B. Moore Rec Center have a special place in the hearts and childhood memories of many of those who grew up here. However, times have changed! In recent years the Rec Center has faced many problems. In 2004, the city was going to destroy the rec center because it lacked funding. The facility's condition was miserable, and when a 10-year-old boy was shot and killed several blocks away, several people in the community decided the time had come to make some changes. They decided it was time to restore the aging center to its former glory. Help the center achieve this goal!

Volunteers will:
* Paint!
* Landscape!
* Indoor cleaning and beautification!
* Playground restoration!
