SHARE - Saturday Service

Package food boxes for people in need!

SHARE (Self-Help and Resource Exchange) is a program where people can purchase a package of food for $16 and 2 hours of community service with a retail value of about $35. The food package contains meat, fresh fruits, vegetables, and staples. SHARE buyers purchase the food from growers, brokers, and packaging plants. The food is not donated, government surplus, or salvage.



Volunteers will package food for distribution. These volunteer hours make YOU eligible to purchase SHARE food at the discounted rate.

SEPTA:
Broad Street Subway (orange line): Get off at Allegheny Avenue. At Broad & Allegheny, take the #60 Bus westbound and get off at 29th and Allegheny. Walk down 29th St., cross Hunting Park Ave., and walk into the SHARE parking lot.
Bus 1: to 29th & Hunting Park.
Bus 32: to 30th & Allegheny.
Bus 48: to 29th & Allegheny.
Bus 60: to 29th & Allegheny.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
From I-95, go to I-76.
Take I-76 West to Route 1 North (Roosevelt Boulevard).
Take the Wissahickon Ave North / Henry Ave Exit.
As the exit forks stay right and turn right onto Wissahickon Ave.
Go 1.5 blocks and turn left onto the Service Road for Route 1.
Turn left onto Fox Street, and travel ¾ of a mile.Turn right onto Hunting Park Ave. Go past the Tastycake Bakery on your right, under the pass, and turn right at the stoplight. The SHARE parking lot is immediately on your right. (Right across from Mercy Vocational School)

Dignity Housing - Half Day Project

Dignity Housing is a non-profit organization established by formerly homeless people to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty confronting low-income and homeless families and individuals in Philadelphia. Dignity Housing promotes their self-sufficiency by providing affordable rental housing with individualized social services; home ownership opportunities; assistance in pursuit of education objectives; workforce development; and financial management assistance.

Volunteers Will: Work together to SORT TOYS, DECORATE PARTY SPACE, and preparing gift baskets for families

Transportation
Septa:

Broad Street Line: Take the Broad Street Subway to the Erie St stop. Walk one block east to corner of Germantown Avenue and Erie Street. Catch the 23 bus to Ashmead Street. Walk half a block back to 5221 Germantown Avenue.
Market-Frankford Line: Take the train to City Hall to the Broad Street Line. Follow direction above from Broad Street Line.
Buses: The 23 Bus goes up 11th street to Germantown Avenue and drops off at Ashmead Street (a half block from the project).

Driving Directions:
76W: Take 76 West to Roosevelt Avenue (US 1 North) exit. Continue on Roosevelt Avenue for close to 2 miles to the Germantown Avenue exit. Continue on Germantown Avenue to 5221 Germantown Avenue (between Ashmead and Bringhurst Streets)

76E: Take 76 East to Roosevelt Avenue (US 1 North) exit and follow above directions to 5221 Germantown Avenue.

Rubye's Kids Holiday Party














Celebrate the holidays with more than 500 needy children from Philadelphia-area shelters and schools.
DAY: Saturday, December 13!


TIME: Please arrive promptly at 7:30am! Latecomers will NOT be admitted!!!7:30am to 3pm!
PLACE:
Girard College! 2101 South College Ave (21st & Girard) Philadelphia, PA 19121

WHAT: Volunteering with kids! Volunteers will escort kids to/from stations, face paint, give tattoos, make holiday ornaments, sand art, holiday cards, photo magnets,distribute gloves/hats/yoyos/books/etc., work in the carnival area, work in Toyland, and more…

** Volunteers Must wear a white shirt, black or khaki pants, and sneakers/rubber soled shoes! **

Note: In order to get to project on time, you’ll need to be at the City Hall by 7:00am to catch the next #33!!!
From the Market-Frankford El (blue line) or the Broad Street Line (orange line), get off at City Hall (15th Street) and take the #33 bus toward Venango and 22nd. Get off at 20th and Poplar Streets, and then walk down Corinthian Ave toward the entrance of Girard College.


#33 bus runs south on 19th Street and north on 20th Street.

-Alternative: #15 bus runs East & West on Girard Avenue.

Driving Directions:
From the Vine Street Expressway (I-676)
* Exit at 23rd Street: Ben Franklin Pkwy/Museum Area;
* Stay to the left until you reach 22nd Street and turn left onto 22nd Street.
* Continue on 22nd Street until the dead end and make a right onto Fairmount Avenue.
* Turn left at the first light onto Corinthian Avenue.
* Continue to the light and cross Girard Avenue.
* College entrance is straight ahead. Ask for directions to the armory for the Rubye’s Kids Party.
