RSP 2: CITY YEAR SERVE-A-THON

Join Building with Books for our biggest event of the school year!

DAY: Saturday, October 11th

TIME: 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM

PLACE: 300 Shunk Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148

WHO: All Lead Students, Furness, Harriton, University City, Abington, Upper Darby, Lower Merion, & Motivation

WHAT: Join BwB students from all over Philadelphia and City Year in our efforts to revitalize Murphy Recreation Center. Help make this center a hub for safe, educational, and fun activities. Volunteers will paint, remove graffiti, clean, pick up trash around the neighborhood, and help restore a playground.

Free Breakfast & Lunch. Plus T-Shirts! It will be a great day.

TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED: MEET THE BwB BUS!!!

You may pick up a BwB bus at any stop. You simply need a BwB permission slip.

8:00 AM - University City
8:30 AM - Start Serving!!!

SEPTA DIRECTIONS (if you choose to come on your own):

Market Frankford Line:

* Take the Market Frankford Line to the 5th Street Stop.

* Walk South on 5th Street 3 Blocks to Chestnut Street. Turn LEFT on Chestnut Street.

* Catch the 57 Bus (headed toward Whitman Plaza) on the corner of 4th Street and Chestnut Street

* Disembark Bus 57 at 4th Street and Shunk Street.

* You have arrived! The main entrance of the Rec Center is on 3rd and West Schunk, so you may have to walk 1 block.

Broad Street Subway

* Take the Broad Street Subway to the BSL Oregon Stop.

* Come above ground and catch Bus G.

* Disembark Bus G at the corner of Aregon Ave and 3rd Street.

* Walk 1 block to Schunk Street. You will see the Rec Center on your Left.

From I-76

* Merge onto I-76 East

* Keep LEFT to take the VINE ST EXPY/I-676 E/US-30 E via EXIT 344 toward CENTRAL PHILADELPHIA (1.6 mi)

* Merge onto I-95 S via the exit on the LEFT toward CHESTER/PHILA INT'L AIRPORT (3.6 mi)

* Take the I-76 E exit, EXIT 19, toward WALT WHITMAN BR/PACKER AVE (0.2 mi)

* Take the exit toward I-76 W/Packer ave (0.2 mi)

* Take the ramp toward OREGON AVE (0.0 mi)

* Turn LEFT onto S FRONT ST. (0.1 mi)

PHILABUNDANCE
DAY: Saturday, October 6
TIME: 1 PM - 4 PM
PLACE: 302 West Berks Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122

WHAT: Sort and pack food for the hungry!

WHY: Approx. 27% of food goes to waste each year in the US while MILLIONS of people go hungry! Philabundance works to end hunger and malnutrition in the Delaware Valley by rescuing surplus food and distributing it to local organizations serving people in need.Food is donated from local and national food companies/supermarkets/food drives, repackaged as needed, and then distributed to local organizations such as shelters, senior and youth centers, day care centers, drug and alcohol treatment programs, and AIDS programs.

SEPTA DIRECTIONS:
Broad Street Subway (orange line): Get off at the Cecil B. Moore stop. Transfer to the #3 bus toward MFL terminal. Get off at the corner of 3rd and Berks

Market-Frankford Line (blue line): Get off at the Berks stop. Transfer to the #3 bus toward 33rd St/Cecil B. Moore Ave. Get off at the corner of 3rd and Berks. You may also choose to walk three very long blocks from Front and Berks to Philabundance.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
From I-95 North, take I-676 (Vine Street Expressway) toward Central Philadelphia. Keep right toward Callowhill St. Take Callowhill and turn right onto N 5th St. Follow approximately 2 miles and turn left onto W Berks St.

From I-76, take I-676 to the 8th St exit. Turn left onto 7th Street north. After about 2 miles, turn right onto Berks St. and stop at the corner of W Berks and 3rd Street. Pull into the Philabundance parking lot.
