MYX International Art Project



Help create a global art piece

When: Saturday May 3rd 10:00am-2:00pm

What: MYX and the Middle East Center at U Penn present an outdoor international artwork opportunity
Where: In front on the Art Museum on Benjamin Franklin Parkway under the large red Iroquois statue


There will be a youth fair sponsored by Y Philly during the artwork project where students can buy lunch and take part in other activities following the service project.

MYX: Multicultural Youth eXchange is a Philadelphia-based, nonprofit organization that works to increase tolerance among young people worldwide by using art-based projects to explore diverse cultures and social issues relevant to all youth.
Volunteers will help set up and create an outdoor artwork expression that is being made in Vanadzor, Armenia. Students may also help younger kids participation in the project and help with clean up following the construction.

SEPTA Directions:
Broad Street Subway (orange line):
(From Northern Points) Get a transfer and take the Subway towards Center City. Get off at City Hall and walk to 15th and JFK (giant monopoly pieces and other statues) and transfer to the 32 Bus in the direction of Lyceum Ave/ Ridge Ave. Get off at Pennsylvania Ave and 25th street and walk towards the Giant Red Statue.

(From Southern Points) Get a transfer and take the Subway towards Center City. Get off at 15th Street and JFK Boulevard to transfer to Bus #32 going in the direction of Lyceum Ave/ Ridge Ave. Get off at the corner of 25th and Pennsylvania Avenue. Walk towards the Giant Red Metal Statue.

Market-Frankford Line (blue line):
Get a transfer and take the train towards Center City Philadelphia. Get off at 15th Street. Walk to the corner of 15th Street and JFK Boulevard to transfer to Bus #32 going in the direction of Lyceum Ave/ Ridge Ave. Get off at the corner of 25th and Pennsylvania Avenue. Walk towards the Giant Red Metal Statue.

Buses/Trolleys:
You can take the Bus 32 bus in either direction and get off at 25th and Pennsylvania. You can also take the 43 and get off at the Art Museum and walk down towards the giant red statue. From 15th and JFK you can also take the 38 toward Wissahickon and the 7 towards Dauphin Loop to get to the Art Museum.

DRIVING Directions:
Take 95 North to Exit #22/Central Phila (US 30) toward 676 E/ Independence Hall (US 30 E). Take the first 676 exit onto 23rd St/ Ben Franklin Parkway. Turn LEFT onto the Ben Franklin Parkway. The large red metal statue will be on your right side. There is no easy spot to park and be dropped off.
From 76 drive towards Center City and take the I-676 East exit toward Central Philadelphia. Take the first 676 exit onto 23rd St/ Ben Franklin Parkway. Turn LEFT onto the Parkway. The large red metal statue will be on your right side.

WHY: Ben and Jerry’s free cone day goes to support an awesome organization called STAND UP FOR KIDS (sufk). SUFK helps homeless street kids around the US. They say…

“As many as two million children, teens, and young adults are trying to survive on US streets today. They make up 27% - the fastest growing segment – of the US homeless population.

This is YOUR call to action. Become a Friend of Kids by helping at FREE SCOOP DAY. When everyone else in their world has abandoned them; we are making a difference. We need your help so we can stay on the streets, saving kids.”

Driving:
* Take BROAD STREET South
* Turn RIGHT onto WALNUT STREET
* Turn LEFT onto S 40th STREET

* Take the MFL to the 40th Street Stop
* Walk approximately 5 and a half blocks from Market Street, to just past Walnut Street.
