UC Green promotes, coordinates, and supports, volunteer community greening projects in University City neighborhoods.

Clark Park Pumpkin Make and Take

DAY: Thursday, October 25th

PLACE: Clark Park Farmer's Market - 43rd St and Baltimore Ave, Philadelphia, PA (Check in at Food Trust Table to sign in and get started)

WHAT: The Food Trust's mission is to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food. Founded in 1992, the Trust works to improve the health of children and adults, promote good nutrition, increase access to nutritious foods, and advocate for better public policy.

The Food Trust runs 25 Farmer's Markets around Philadelphia, many allowing people to use food stamps and WIC Vouchers, in order to get access to fresh, nutritious options for their families.

VOLUNTEERS WILL: learn about fresh food problems in the Philadelphia area, help kids decorate pumpkins, run a face painting table and help with the Food Trust information table!

Lupus Loop Sunday Project

Come support the Lupus Foundation in their 17th annual Lupus Loop 5K.

VOLUNTEERS WILL help set up the event, support registration needs and form cheering squads at the beginning and last mile of race. Students will also help with children’s activities and games.

What: The mission of the Lupus Foundation of America is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of lupus, support individuals and families affected by the disease, increase awareness of lupus among health professionals and the public, and find the causes and cure. The Lupus Loop is a part of a nation-wide series of walks/events that raise awareness and funds to fight lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and tissue damage to virtually any organ system in the body. It strikes mostly women of childbearing age, although women of all ages, as well as men and children, develop lupus. Lupus is a life-threatening, life-diminishing disease.

The Spiral Q Puppet Theater seeks to mobilize communities and illuminate the victories, frustrations and possibilities of living in the neighborhoods of Philadelphia and similar urban settings through the construction of full-scale giant puppet parades, toy theater and neighborhood pageantry.Through its puppet parades and pageants, Spiral Q is resurrecting and reclaiming an almost forgotten form of people's theater to amplify and unite the power and vitality of those working for change through art-making, protest, and civic theater.

Volunteers Will: Help recruit parade participants and take part in the annual pre-Halloween “Dracula” parade

Broad Street Line: Take the Broad Street Subway to City Hall and transfer to any of the Green Surface Line Trolleys. Get off at 19th and Market and walk down 19th street through Rittenhouse Square to Delancey St. Turn right onto Delancey and you’ll see the Spiral Q truck and puppets being set up.
Trolleys: You can take the 10, 11, 13, 34 or 36 trolleys to 19th St and follow the walking directions above.
Market-Frankford Line: Take the train to City Hall and transfer to any Green Surface Trolley and get off at 19th and Market. Walk down 19th Street through Rittenhouse Square to Delancey Street. Turn right onto Delancey St and walk towards the Spiral Q truck and set up.
Buses: You can also take the 33, 17, 2, 48 or any other bus that drops off on Market west of City Hall and walk down to 20th and Delancey.


Driving Directions:From center city: Follow Market Street west to 21st street and turn left. Continue on 21st to Delancey and turn left. The Spiral Q truck will be blocking the street past the corner of 20th and Delancey.

Broad Street Line: Take the Broad Street Subway to City Hall. Walk to the corner of 15th and JFK and get on the #31 bus towards 76th St/City Ave. Get off at 33rd and Baring. Walk on Baring east to 31st street. Turn left and stay on Baring to Spring Garden. Turn left at Spring Garden. The building has a large sign out front at 3114 Spring Garden St.
Trolleys: You can take the 10, 11, 13, 34 or 36 trolleys to 33rd St and board the #31 bus at 33rd and Market headed towards 76th St/City Ave and follow the directions above.
Market-Frankford Line: Take the train to the Spring Garden Stop. Board the 43 bus towards Parkside Ave. Get off at 31st and Spring Garden and walk half a block to 3114 Spring Garden St.
Buses: You can also take the 38 bus towards Wissahickon Trans and get off at 31st and Spring Garden.

From center city: Follow Market Street west to 31st street and turn right. Continue on 31st to Spring Garden and turn left. Service located at 3114 Spring Garden Street. Site is also close to the I-76East Spring Garden exit.
