Ten Thousand Villages

Ten Thousand Villages Community Day!
DAY: Saturday, December 1
TIME: 12pm - 5pm
***Arrive at 69th Street Terminal by 10:45am to travel with BwB on Septa***
PLACE: Ten Thousand Villages, 101 West State Street, Media, PA 19063

WHAT: Ten Thousand Villages (TTV) is a nonprofit store that provides a fair income to artisans in developing countries by marketing their crafts and telling their stories in North America. TTV envisions a world where artisans in developing countries will be treated with dignity and respect and earn a fair wage that will enable them to live a life of quality.

Volunteers are crucial to the success of TTV because they help keep costs lower which allows them to purchase more from artisans from around the world

VOLUNTEERS WILL watch a short film about fair trade, receive a tour of the store, unpack and stock items, and welcome and interact with customers.

SEPTA DIRECTIONS:
Via Broad Street Line (Orange) and Market Frankford Line (Blue): Take the Broad Street Line to City Hall and free transfer to the Market Frankford Line (EL). Take the EL to 69th Street and transfer to Trolley 101. Follow the Trolley directions below.

Via Trolley 101 (69th Street): Take Trolley 101 towards Media. Get off at Olive Street Stop which is at the intersection of Olive Street and State Street. Ten Thousand Villages is also located at this intersection.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
Take 95 South. Merge onto 476 North via Exit 7 toward Plymouth Meeting. Take Exit 3 toward Media. Turn LEFT onto E. Baltimore Pike. Turn RIGHT onto S. Providence Road/PA 252. Turn LEFT E. State Street. Ten Thousand Villages will be on the corner of Olive Street and State Street on the RIGHT.

PHILADELPHIA WORLD AIDS DAY EVENT!
DAY: Saturday, December 1st
TIME: 11:30am-5:00pm
PLACE: William Way Community Center, 1315 Spruce Street, Philadelphia PA 19107

WHAT: The aim of World AIDS Day is to bring to people's attention the worldwide challenges and consequences of the epidemic - ultimately, preventing the spread of HIV and improving the lives of people living with the virus.

Each year the campaign is an opportunity for organizations throughout the world to highlights the HIV pandemic in order to raise awareness and bring about change.

VOLUNTEERS WILL: set up and take part in a World AIDS Day march, support area organizations during a health and awareness fair, learn about the connections between Building with Books and the AIDS epidemic.

NOTE: Please don't forget your permission slip. This is a long project so bring money or a bag lunch.

SEPTA DIRECTIONS:
Market-Frankford Line: Take the Market Frankford Line to the Market East Station. Walk out of the station to the 13th Street and head 6 blocks south to Spruce Street. Turn right at Spruce and walk half a block to the intersection of Spruce and Juniper Streets.

Regional Rail: Take the regional rail to 30th Street Station and Transfer to the Market Frankford Line to the Market East Station. Walk out of the station to 13th Street and head 6 blocks south to Spruce Street and walk half a block west to the intersection of Spruce and Juniper Street. Or take the regional rail to Suburban Station at 16th and JF Kennedy Blvd and walk 3 blocks east and 6 blocks south to the intersection of Spruce and Juniper Street.

Broad Street Line: Take the Broad Street Subway to the Walnut-Locust stop and walk one block east to Juniper Street and head south to Spruce Street.

Septa Bus Options: You can take the C Bus to Spruce St and walk one block over to Juniper and Spruce. You can take the 21 Bus to 13th Street and walk south to Spruce and one block over to Juniper.

Driving Directions:
I-76 East:
Take 76 East to 676 East via Exit 344 toward Central Philadelphia.
Take the Broad Street Exit and get onto 15th Street.
Continue on 15th Street to Locust Street. Turn left onto Locust and then right onto 13th. Continue on 13th to Spruce St. Turn Left onto Spruce to 1315 Spruce St near the intersection of Spruce and Juniper St.
