WHAT: Join BwB for a service project with Jane Adam’s Place and group trip to the Mandala project! Jane Adam’s Place is an emergency shelter for up to 29 mothers and their children. Jane Adam’s Place helps families get back on their feet so they can soon find a place of their own.
Volunteers will help with childcare and children’s activities in the morning. We’ll break for lunch at noon. At 1 we will walk to the Mandala Project with families from Jane Adam’s Place.
THE MANDALA PROJECT: The Buddhist monk Losang spent 15 days in the Philadelphia Cathedral constructing a work of prayer known as a Mandala, a circular 8-foot-diameter sand painting. This is an art form dating from the 12th century in which millions of grains of sand in different bright colors are minutely sculpted into an intricate diagram representing the cosmos and many aspects of life. It is created over a two-week period and then remains in a completed state for a third week before it is swept up by the hands of the congregation and returned to the sea. There is also a COLOR PHOTO EXHIBIT featuring pictures from NEPAL. We will walk 7 blocks to the church at 37th and Chestnut Street to view the exhibit.

Take the Subway to City Hall and transfer to Market-Frankford Line MFL terminal. Follow directions from Market-Frankford Line.
Market-Frankford Line (blue line):
Get off at the 40th Street stop. Walk 3 blocks west to 43rd and 1 block south to the corner of 43rd and Ludlow. Jane Addams Shelter located in large former church building on corner.
Buses/Trolleys: You can take the 21 Bus to 43rd and walk north to Ludlow. You can also take the 64 from west Philadelphia in the direction of Parkside Ave and get off at either Farragut and Chestnut and walk up and over to 43rd and Ludlow or get off at 46th and Market and walk east and south. You can take the 11,13, 34 or 36 Trolley to 37th and Spruce and walk up to Ludlow and over to 43rd.

From I-95 North, take I-676 (Vine Street Expressway) toward Central Philadelphia. Exit at 30th Street Station. Continue on Market to 44th Street. Turn right onto 44th and left onto Ludlow.
