Jane Addams Place Shelter


Jane Addams Place is an emergency shelter for up to 29 mothers with children.
At Jane Addams Place, Child & Family Advocates assist residents by focusing on families & trauma so that they can regain permanent housing and employment.

Broad Street Subway (orange line):
Take the Subway to City Hall and transfer to Market-Frankford Line MFL terminal. Follow directions from Market-Frankford Line.

Market-Frankford Line (blue line):
Get off at the 40th Street stop. Walk 3 blocks west to 43rd and 1 block south to the corner of 43rd and Ludlow. Jane Addams Shelter located in large former church building on corner.

Buses/Trolleys: You can take the 21 Bus to 43rd and walk north to Ludlow. You can also take the 64 from west Philadelphia in the direction of Parkside Ave and get off at either Farragut and Chestnut and walk up and over to 43rd and Ludlow or get off at 46th and Market and walk east and south. You can take the 11,13, 34 or 36 Trolley to 37th and Spruce and walk up to Ludlow and over to 43rd.

From I-95 North, take I-676 (Vine Street Expressway) toward Central Philadelphia. Exit at 30th Street Station. Continue on Market to 44th Street. Turn right onto 44th and left onto Ludlow. PLACE: Hillcreek Apartments Senior Cleanup, 528 Adams Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19120

WHAT: Come help the elderly residents of the Hillcreek Apartments for Seniors. Many of the residents are elderly and disabled. We will rake leaves, pick up trash, and offer to wash dishes, mop floors, clean stoves, take out trash, and more. The elderly, often struggle with daily chores. Help make life better for them through these simple acts.

What: Volunteers will be repairing and painting walls, weatherization projects, and general maintenance on a childrens’ center!

LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED!!!
Dress in comfortable shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty! Bring a sweatshirt because it may be cool in the facility!

This is the 4th annual “East meets West” Project organized by Keystone Smiles Americorps Program. The project’s goal is to support community building efforts for early education professionals as well as assisting to expand resources for Children’s Centers that serve low-income families and struggle to sustain quality businesses.

The best way to get out to the New Covenant Campus is to take Bus 23. You can catch bus 23 at Broad and Erie. Take Bus 23 headed west towards the Chesnut Hill Loop. You’ll get off at the New Covenant Campus, which will be on your left after you cross E. Mount Airy Avenue and West Allen Lane. Walk towards the campus and ask for Founders Hall.

BSL/MFL
If you are using the Broad Street Line, take it to the Erie Stop and follow the directions above.
If you are using the Market-Frankford Line, transfer to the Broad Street Line at city hall and take it North to the Erie Stop. Then follow the directions above.

Regional Rail:
R8
If you are coming from 30th Street Station, Suburban Station or Market East Station, you can take the R8 towards Chesnut Hill West and get off at the Allen Lane Station. Walk Northeast on Allen Lane for two blocks crossing Rural Lane and Bryant Street until you reach Germantown Avenue. Make a left onto Germantown and then walk about another two blocks until you see the New Covenant Campus on your left. Ask for Founders Hall.

You can also take the R7 from 30th Street Station, Suburban Station, or Market East Station going towards Chesnut Hill East. You’ll get off at the Mount Airy stop. Once you get off, walk 1 and a half blocks southwest on E. Gowen Street, crossing Boyer Street until you reach Germantown Avenue. Make a right onto Germantown Avenue, and the New Covenant Campus will be about two blocks away on your left. Ask for Founders Hall.

Help pack T-Shirts for thousands of MLK Day volunteers!

WHAT: On January 19th thousands of volunteers will work together to remember Dr. King and make Philly a better place in his name. Those volunteers will all get T-Shirts. Help sort them to prepare for this huge event!
