HOMEWORKS Blitz Day!

Come out to lend a hand and brighten the home and life of a 93-year old homeowner!

What: Home Works One-Day Blitz!
7+ Homes will be repaired in Philadelphia!

When: Saturday April 5th 7:00am-5:00pm
*Students can call home if project ends early!

Where: 1820 Montgomery Avenue, Philadelphia, PA (BwB Home)
*BwB staff will meet students at 69th Street Terminal and at the Love Park Statue to travel!
69th Street Meet Up: 6:45am – 6:55am
Love Park Statue Meet Up: 7:00am - 7:15am

DO NOT BE LATE!!!!!!!!!!!

Volunteers will spend time with the homeowner, repair walls, install windows, paint windows and doors, install ceiling fixtures, and clean debris near the home. Equipment, tools, and First Aid materials are provided. Construction professionals will supervise tasks at each home!

Volunteers MUST pre-register for project no later than Thursday April 3rd!!! See your Program Coordinator for a registration packet.


Home Works is a faith-based organization that provides home repairs to homeowners in need, assisting youth in their development and empowering communities to meet the needs of its members. Studies show that over 90% of seniors want to remain in their homes as they age however 1.5 million elderly citizens live in deficient housing conditions leading to many home accidents. Since 1996, Home Works has repaired more than 1,000 homes and is now expanding to Philadelphia, PA.


IMPORTANT NOTES:
Volunteers must be current with Tetanus Shot!
DRESS FOR MESS – Long Pants/ Long Sleeve Shirts/ Hat or Scarf/ Covered Shoes!
Bring a Bagged Lunch – Fruits, snacks, water, Gatorade will be provided!
No cell phone or music/ earphones devices allowed in the home during project!
Do not sign up if you cannot stay until 5pm if needed!

SEPTA Directions:
Broad Street Subway (orange line):
(From Northern Points)
Get a transfer and take the Subway towards Cecil B. Moore Stop. Get off at the Cecil B. Moore stop and transfer to Bus 3 going in the direction of 33rd Street/Cecil B Moore Ave. Get off at the corner of Cecil B. Moore Blvd/ 18th Street. Walk a block to 19th Street and half a block down on Montgomery Avenue to the home.

(From Southern Points) Get a transfer and take the Subway towards Center City. Get off at 15th Street and JFL Boulevard to transfer to Bus #33 going in the direction of Venango St/22nd St. Get off at the corner of 19th Street/ Montgomery Avenue. The home will be on Montgomery Ave between 18th and 19th Street.

Market-Frankford Line (blue line):
Get a transfer and take the train towards Center City Philadelphia. Get off at 15th Street. Walk to the corner of 15th Street and JFK Boulevard to transfer to Bus #33 going in the direction of Venango St/22nd St. Get off at the corner of 19th Street/ Montgomery Avenue. The home will be on Montgomery Ave between 18th and 19th Street.

Buses/Trolleys:
You can take the Bus 33 to 19th Street/ Montgomery Avenue and walk about half a block to the home. You can also take the Bus 3 to Cecil B Moore and 18th Street and walk a block to 19th Street and half a block down on Montgomery Avenue to the home. You can take all Trolleys to 30th Street to FREE transfer to the Market-Frankford Line (and follow instructions above) OR to 15th Street to transfer to the Bus 33.

DRIVING Directions:
Take 95 North to Exit #22/Central Phila (US 30) toward 676 E/ Independence Hall (US 30 E). Continue on Callowhill Street and turn RIGHT on 5th Street. Turn LEFT on Spring Garden Street. Turn RIGHT on 7th Street. Turn LEFT on Fairmount Avenue. Bear RIGHT on Ridge Avenue. Bear RIGHT on 19th Street. Turn RIGHT on W Montgomery Avenue. Home is at 1820 Montgomery Avenue.
